Rutger type R5B Rugger - Sharp

The Rutger is a one-to-one reproduction of an original find located in the Museum of Visegrád, called to life by the growing demand for ruggers - a very underrepresented type of bladed weapon from the 15th-16th century.

The stiff blade has an aggressive distal taper toward the point with completely flat bevels, that are only broken by a very thin and shallow fuller along the spine on each side of the blade.

The thickest part of the tang is located at the top rivet of the grip, and tapers both towards the tip of the blade and the pommel of the grip.

The wooden grip panels serve not only as a handle for this rugger, but also cover the base of the blade in similar fashion to a bolster. The panels are fixed with an adhesive as seen on many historical pieces, and secured with tubular rivets.

The octagonal Nagel and the pommel are both missing pieces of the original, which we designed based on other finds located in the same Museum to make this product almost a 100% accurate reproduction. Thanks to the quite large C-shaped pommel on the grip, the rugger is well balanced, nimble and fast.

The blade is ground freehand from a blank of 6150/51crv4 steel heat-treated to 52-54 HrC hardness and has a small secondary bevel, the hilt accessories are handfiled from mild steel.

The product is a reproduction of an original historical artifact, made by hand, which means it might bear the signs of its making; small tool marks and imperfections, which do not affect the build quality or usability but give each of our pieces its unique character.
