Hauer type M5C Rugger - Blunt Trainer

The Hauer rugger is a minimalist weapon with a distinct design that has been created by Adam Bodorics based not just on a wide collection of data about historical items, but leaning into the idea of ruggers being primarily weapons instead of the popular belief of them being tools

The straight M5C type blade with strong profile taper provides enough flexibility for safe sparring even with the quite short blade length of the rugger.

The bolsters of the grip have a similar design to our Large Bauernwehr, providing just a bit of protection for the index finger, combined with the N2d nagel already known from our Volker messer. The grip ends in a pommelplate, hot-peened on the tang, enhancing durability for the exposed part of the grip against potential stray hits.

The wooden grip panels are fixed with an adhesive, as seen on many historical pieces, and secured with tubular rivets.

The blade is ground freehand from a blank of 6150/51crv4 steel heat-treated to 50-52 HrC hardness, while the hilt accessories are ground by hand from mild steel.

The product is a training tool made by hand, which means it might bear the signs of its making: small tool marks and imperfections, which do not affect the build quality or usability but give each of our pieces its unique character.
