Gustav is one of the most characteristic blades from our Emporium- it has a short, yet wide blade with an elegant clip point. The slightly curved M4D(+) blade of this Langes Messer is decorated with a full- length wide fuller. Additionally, it comes with type XV (a, b) quillons with a knucklebow, style N5b Nagel and a in the standard model a DD1 pommel plate.
The Nagel is a separate piece peened on the other side of the quillon block, as it should be. The quillons are slid upward from the end of the grip with the blade protruding in the bottom. The tang is peened over the steel DD1 pommel plate.
The blade and the hilt accessories are hand ground; the blade is made from a blank of 6150/51crv4 steel and the accessories from mild steel.
The handmade grip is affixed by gluing and three peened tubular brass rivets of varying diameters.
To keep the authentic feel and affordable price, we allow some slight variation when it comes to the hilt accessories - it means that no two Messers are the same. They will differ and show marks of hammering, as the antique Messers do. Additionally, in our designs we use organic materials which may vary in texture and hue.
We follow the philosophy of design from the past- hardly any weapons were made pristine. They bore signs of swordmaker's tools, hours of filing and hard work which makes for a unique signature of the maker, and their relationship with the weapon they forge. It means that our pieces are unique, and no two weapons are the same.
The weapon is a practice sharp Messer for cutting and technical drills, perfect for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
