Just like Messers, Bauernwehrs also come in all shapes and sizes, and are able to fulfill several roles because of this. This model is rather close to the archetypal form with it’s large, choppy and clipped blade.
The 300mm long, slightly widening blade is hand-ground from 6mm thick 6150 steel and has a sharpened false edge. The shape of the walnut grip is based on several surviving antique Bauernwehren, widening and thickening towards the end to aid weapon retention while being rather slender close to the blade to maximize the precision of use. The mild steel bolsters are secured with a pair of rivets ground flush and a properly peened N2a Nagel.
The sheath is hand-sewn from the luxurious half-tan leather, making it extremely sturdy and resilient. We decorated it with a single Totentanz figure surrounded by floral motifs. The very end of the sheath has a geometric decoration.
We follow the philosophy of design from the past- hardly any weapons were made pristine. They bore signs of swordmaker's tools, hours of filing and hard work which makes for a unique signature of the maker, and their relationship with the weapon they forge. It means that our pieces are unique, and no two weapons are the same.
The weapon is a practice Bauernwehr for test cutting and technical drills, perfect for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and reenactment.
